First State Residential Living - Direct Support Professional (DSP)
Direct Support Professional Summary & Responsibilities:
DSP’s work with adults who have developmental (behavioral, physical, mental health) disabilities. The DSP supports the individual in a group home setting. Responsibilities include:
Assisting individuals with activities of daily living (such as):
Preparing meals
Personal hygiene and grooming
Assisting with medication administration
Bathing and toileting
Encouraging individuals to participate in community activities
Handling general housekeeping tasks and meal preparation
Errands to shopping or activities
Transporting to medical appointments
Enjoying recreational outings together
Teaching strategies to help clients live as independently as possible
While providing supervision and support, the DSP also provides opportunity for each individual to develop and grow towards greater independence.
Direct Support Professional Qualifications:
Must be 21 years old age or older with a valid ID.
Must have at least six (6) months hands-on care experience in the last five (5) years working within the qualifying environments:
Hospital
Nursing Home
Hospice
Assisted Living Facility
Rehabilitation Facility
Group Home
Home Health Agency
Must have a valid Driver’s License with clean and acceptable driving record
Must be CPR/First Aid certified. Must be from a in-person class; online course does not qualify.
Must have a recent Physical in the last twelve (12) months
Two-Step PPD is required
Must be reliable, responsible, and compassionate
